Year 8 Term Outline
Media Codes and Conventions
Students will be introduced to the notion of Media and how Media texts are constructed.
The main focus of the unit will be media codes and conventions (symbolic, written, audio, technical) and how these are used to identify genre, target audience and stereotypes.
There will be 4 Assessment tasks in this unit:
1. Portfolio (40%)
This is a term long assessment and therefore is worth more.
Students will be expected to gather media texts, both in and outside of class, and make observations and comments on these texts, in regards to what they are learning in class (codes, conventions, genre, target audience and stereotypes).
2. Class Presentation (25%)
In groups of 4, students will present a 10/15 minute speach on a film viewed in class.
3. Poster Design and Analysis(20%)
Students will develop an idea for a film, they will identify: storyline and main characters; target audience and genre. Students will then create a poster for this film.
4. In Class Test (15%)
Students will be given the duration of one class to complete a test on the materials learned throughout the term.
